My being adopted was never a secret, nor was it a hindrance to any of our relationships. I was as much a part of the family as everyone else, even if I didn't share the same bloodline.
Robert Pfeifer -- this was the name I was given by my biological mother when I was born in Chicago, Illinois. She gave me up for adoption on the very same day because I was a result of an affair. For the entire duration of her pregnancy, she carried me in her womb, but had no idea I was not her fiance's child until I came out...with brown skin. Those 9 months would sum up the total and only duration of time where I was a part of her life. For the next 3 months, I was an orphan moving around churches and foster homes.
James and I were inseparable our entire childhood, even more so after our parents' divorce when I was around 7...My brother James later went on to join the NFL, and he currently plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Florida.
Allen Davis O'Shaughnessy -- this was the name I was given by my now adoptive parents, Jim O'Shaughnessy and Sally Davis. They were both in their mid-20s at the time, and were an interracial couple. I was a perfect fit. From then on, Sally and Jim became Mom and Dad. A year later, my brother James was born. My being adopted was never a secret, nor was it a hindrance to any of our relationships. I was as much a part of the family as everyone else, even if I didn't share the same bloodline. James and I were inseparable our entire childhood, even more so after our parents' divorce when I was around 7. Eventually, both of them moved on to different relationships, developing into remarriages that led to James and I gaining more than half a dozen step siblings. My brother James later went on to join the NFL, and he currently plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Florida.
Fast forward to 2012, when a friend invited me on a trip to the Philippines. I agreed to come, not knowing I was about to meet my future wife, Donna, and visit the country I would soon call home. In 8 months’ time, I found myself selling everything I owned and packing my bags to move to the Philippines for good.
MC AOH -- this was the name I carried in Manila's nightlife as a DJ/emcee. I was blessed enough to be able to pursue my passion for music and performing. All the while being able to travel and see other places I never thought I would see and creating friendships and memories that would last for the rest of my life.
Matthew James O'Shaughnessy -- On May 19, 2018, my wife gave birth to our son, Matthew. He's turning 2 in a few days. There's nothing that has ever happened in my life that I would ever change nor do differently. To me, my life is perfect and it's all because of the people who chose to have me as a part of their lives. Especially those who did, when no one else would.
